Big Weekend!
Hello Harvest!
I am thrilled to be back from vacation and ready to see you again this weekend. Lauren and I took the kids to Disney, so there are many tales to tell. Ellie (10) conquered her fear of roller coasters, Cassie (8) led the whole family on a bird-watching trail hike, and Jared became a Jedi (story will be told Sunday). I am definitely refreshed, kind of tan, and looking forward to being back with you.
There is much to be excited about! We have several people who will be baptized this Sunday. The baptism will happen at 10:15 down by the pool. If you attend the first service, we will all walk down together. If you attend the second service, consider coming early to see the baptisms. (Be sure to arrive at 10 so you have time to find the pool)
Also this Sunday is our 3rd annual church picnic. Fun starts at 3, food at 5. We will meet at New Beginnings Church, just across from Stagg. For those of you participating in the grill-off, there is no need to bring your grill earlier than 3pm.
See you Sunday!

Update on Shelby
Hello Church Family,
By now you should know we are all praying for the Hermosillo family. If Shelby is not at the top of your prayer list, bump her there immediately. In case you haven't heard the story, Shelby has been suffering with awful migraines for weeks on end. Doctors were testing her for everything and were starting to think she had MS. Then, last Friday, Shelby got into a head-on collision that landed her in the hospital. She is still in the hospital, suffering with 2 bulging discs in her neck and problems with her kidneys and bladder. I have an encouraging report on her progress.
The good news: They've done every test imaginable to diagnose all the problems-CAT scans, MRI's, blood tests, etc. Shelby doesn't need neck surgery. Also, doctors believe her stomach and bladder problems might have been caused by the MS medication. As for the cause of the headaches, they no longer see demyelinations on the MRI's. Demyelinations indicate MS. Shelby originally had 2 show up on an MRI, and now there are none. So, either they misread the MRI...or...! Shelby said, "They didn't have an answer for that."
The bad news: Doctors think a hormone/steroid deficiency might be contributing to the headaches. They will begin treating this instead of MS. Shelby is still incredibly weak, even unable to get out of bed and sit in a chair for long. She needs to be on bed rest for at least a week. She will also need in-home physical therapy for several weeks. And Dave needs to get back to work soon.
What is being done to help? The church will be hiring someone to house-sit/babysit/Shelby-sit for a week while Shelby recovers. Her small group has been dynamite, and they will still provide some support, but we are developing a long-term sustainable plan.
I commend all of you who visited Shelby, helped out with the kids, cleaned the house, brought meals, and prayed on her behalf. The love of Christ is on full display!
Continue to lift up Shelby and Dave in prayer. Pray for full healing, total recovery and strength throughout the process.
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

All Church Prayer Request
Hey church family,
Please take time to pray for Dave and Shelby Hermosillo today. Shelby has been struggling with chronic migraines for weeks, her son has been having seizures, and then yesterday she got into a head-on collision. She is in the hospital with 2 bulging disks in her neck. Pray for comfort, for strength, for healing and for endurance. Put the Hermosillo at the top of your prayer list this entire week.

Building Program Update
Dear Church Family,
I announced last Sunday that the Future Facility Team needs you to pray and fast one day this week. So far, the team has completed a church demographic survey, visited several available properties, and discussed what all our ministries would need under roof. Most of what we've accomplished so far is preliminary. But we now have our first official "lead" on a possible church home. We don't even know if it is a good lead, but before we even pick up the phone to chase it down, we want the church to pray and fast. We want God to know He is in charge of our search from the first lead until we move in to our new home.
Will you pick a day THIS WEEK, and pray for our future home? For more details, check out the latest entry in our building program blog HERE.

Pastor Ryan

Easter Recap
Greetings Harvest Palos!
I wanted you to hear the great report from Easter weekend. It was our best weekend yet in many ways. We set a new high attendance record, as there were 483 people at church total. We had tons of visitors, some new and some returning. Praise the Lord for drawing so many people to hear the Good News and to worship Him with joy.
Our Good Friday service was also well-attended. Countless volunteers did double duty to make 2 services possible. Our tech team deserves high praise for their flexibility and determination. Both the worship and tech teams were exemplary servants of Christ, some even serving on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are blessed to have such selfless people on our ministry teams! (Make sure you thank them for their hard work the next time you see them.)
I trust you were blessed and encouraged by all that happened at Harvest last weekend. If you were serving, thank you for helping to make it a truly spectacular time of remembrance and celebration!

God is at work!
Greeting Church Family!
I want to take a moment to encourage you as Sunday approaches. The Lord is doing amazing things in our church. Since we made the move to 2 services, we've had over 40 first-time visitors fill out the friendship register, and no doubt there are many more who are silently checking us out. More people visited our website in January than any other month since our launch. Prior to 2 services, we were averaging 345 people each Sunday. Since the change, we are averaging 410 people each Sunday. I trust you will be encouraged that our hard work and faith is already reaping a Harvest.
God is entrusting us with many new people who are looking for a solid, healthy, friendly church. Let's all make sure to bring a warm smile and a cheerful spirit to church this weekend. Consider yourself officially appointed to the "first impression team." Let's go out of our way to greet some folks we do not know. The truth is, people stay where they feel loved, and we really want to be a loving church.
I can't tell you how excited I am to begin preaching from 1 Corinthians 15 this Sunday. We will remain in this chapter for the next 6 weeks, culminating on Easter Sunday. The whole section is about the resurrection of Christ, and the future resurrection of us. We will talk about hope, death, heaven, the rapture, the end times, the resurrection body and the power of the Gospel, all in one chapter! It begins this Sunday with one of the clearest and most compelling presentations of the Gospel found in the New Testament. I have been riveted in my study times, and I trust the Lord will bless you. But who will you invite to hear the Gospel this weekend? Call, email, text or Facebook at least 3 people who need to hear the Gospel and invite them to Harvest. Do it right away so you don't forget. Pray that the Lord will work in powerful ways between now and Easter Sunday.

Pastor Ryan

Have you?
Have you? Everyone at Harvest is working to make this Sunday the best service we have ever had. We want God to go to work in a very special way. So, have you?
First, have you invited your friends( family, coworker, neighbors, etc) to church yet? I am making my list right now and will be on the phone with 3 or 4 people before the day is done. Sunday is "Bring a friend day." I will share the Gospel, and the Lord will do wondrous deeds in our midst. Who will be sitting next to you?
Second, have you prayed for your church this week? Here is a prayer guide for the week that I sent out earlier. Don't worry if you fell behind. Take time today to pray for your church---at your desk, at the dinner table, wherever. Ask the Lord to do amazing things in our ministries this weekend!
Monday: Pray for the Worship Team & Tech Team/Stage Crew-Pastor Mark and Brad Whitla
Tuesday: Pray for Children's Ministry and Children's Check-in-Pastor Brandon and Diane Janckenko
Wednesday: Pray for the Preaching and Prayer Team-Pastor Ryan and Mike Janckenko

Big News
Hey Harvest!
I just wanted to follow-up with you regarding some of the announcements I made this morning.
1. This Sunday 1/29 we move to 2 services! Church will be at 9 and 11 AM. It will take several weeks to get used to the new rotations, so be sure to communicate with your ministry leader(s) and your spouse to avoid scheduling conflicts. If you have any concerns with your schedule, please get in touch with Diane Janchenko at 708 974-2222.
2. It is now possible for you to participate in a worship service and hear a sermon every week! If you serve on a ministry team that pulls you out of church (like security or children's ministry), you should plan to work one service and attend the other.
3. Bring a friend to church this Sunday! Invite at least 3 people to church with you this upcoming weekend. I will share the Gospel and challenge people to make Christ their number one priority in life.
4. Our church is being profiled on the radio this week! Tune into WYLL AM 1160 Monday-Friday at 7:55 AM to hear me read a verse of the day. Also, at some point during the 8:00 AM hour, they will air parts of an interview with me. I share my testimony and tell the story of our church. Praise God that all of Chicagoland is hearing our story the week before we move to 2 services! Truly a God-thing. (You can also visit WYLL.com to listen to the interview.)
5. Please make this a week of fervent prayer. I am inviting everyone to join me in praying for our ministry teams daily throughout the week. Here is a prayer guide:
Monday: Pray for the Worship Team & Tech Team/Stage Crew-Pastor Mark and Brad Whitla
Tuesday: Pray for Children's Ministry and Children's Check-in-Pastor Brandon and Diane Janckenko
Wednesday: Pray for the Preaching and Prayer Team-Pastor Ryan and Mike Janckenko
Thursday: Pray for Parking and Security Team-Jeremy Ritzema and Bill Wayteck
Friday: Pray for the Road Crew and Ushers/Greeters/Counters-Mike Melody, Ken Tiesenga and Glen Nielsen
Let's pray with great expectation that God will move in a special way this weekend for His Glory!

Another big Sunday
Greetings!
We have another great Sunday planned for this weekend. As we gain traction and momentum in 2012, I don't want you to be left behind! I will present somewhat of an annual report to the congregation this Sunday. I want you to know what God did through us in 2011. I trust the "facts" will bless and encourage you. This will not take the place of a message from God's Word. On the contrary, I will also cast vision for 2012. It is going to be the greatest year of fruitfulness yet, to the glory and praise of God.
Also, here are a few links that might be helpful to you:
Weekly sermons can now be viewed on our home page (including all pictures and videos and notes): www.harvestpalos.org

See you this Sunday!
Hey Harvest!
Lauren and I are excited to be back at Harvest this Sunday. We had a great time on vacation last week, and the Lord really prepared us for another year of fruitful ministry. I feel recharged and ready to bring a message from God's Word.
You will not want to miss a single Sunday in January! We are getting the entire church revved up as we plan to add a second service beginning on January 29th. All of our ministry leaders will be communicating about the changes and will hold training sessions in the weeks ahead, so you definitely do not want to get left behind!
I will have important announcements and updates each week, and I want you to be fully informed and fully prepared for this next great step of faith. I will also take time to review what God did through us in 2011 and will cast vision for 2012.
It all starts this Sunday!
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan
PS. There is a swim meet at Stagg this Sunday, so you might want to arrive a few minutes early to find a parking spot. I doubt we will be in the satellite lot, but you never know. We are mere renters for now. (Why did we take up a building fund offering again) :)

Building Fund Offering
Greetings!
Are you wondering how Sunday's building fund offering turned out? Well, you have to work to find the offering total. Go to our website and locate the brand new, "Building Program Blog." That is where we will begin posting all the latest news as God reveals His plan to us in the months ahead. Here is a clue: look for the word "News" and you are on your way to finding the blog.

Important Announcements
Hey Harvest!
If you were at church last Sunday, you know EXACTLY why we need to start a facility search. There was a community wrestling meet at Stagg, and they took up every parking space in the lot! What a painful reminder that we are a church without a home.
Remember, this Sunday we are taking up our first ever future facility offering. Please come ready to give by faith. We are requesting that you give your regular offering, and then give an additional offering to the building fund. We are aiming for 100% participation. The amount of the gift doesn't matter to God. He loves cheerful sacrifice. So decide in your heart what to give, and then come with 2 checks.
We have an amazing Christmas service planned for this Sunday. Our worship team and our children's ministry team are taking it up a notch to make the morning truly special. I am preaching a sermon on the Incarnation of Christ. It will be very Gospel-centered, so invite your neighbors and friends to Harvest Palos this Sunday.
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan
P.S. Let's wear our Christmas best this week and next (no ugly sweaters, though!). This Sunday will truly be a service to remember!

Birthday Recap!
Hey Harvest!
Let me commend you for inviting friends and family to our 2nd Birthday Service. We had 407 people at church on Sunday! That is only the 3rd time we have ever had more than 400 people, and it is a direct result of your faithfulness in reaching out to others. There were many people who responded to the Gospel message by raising their hand up at the end of the service. I counted at least 15. I am greatly encouraged, but I really get excited when new believers decide to get baptized. Our next baptism service is 2 weeks away!

Someone you know...
Hey Harvest!
Someone you know needs to hear the sermon this week. It is titled, "Surviving the Storm." Do you know someone who is in the middle of a category 5 Hurricane? 150 mile per hour winds, black skies, surging sea? Their life is just sinking. Maybe it is because of a financial crisis, or a relationship that's falling apart, or an illness---whatever the storm, they need to hear from God this weekend. So call and invite them to church right now. God is going to encourage many people through His Word.
See you Sunday!

Also, do you know anyone who has been putting off the most important decision of their life? They know the truth about Jesus, but they are taking their sweet time responding to it. Call them and invite them to church this weekend. They show up in the Bible passage this week! I am sure God will use your courage and initiative, and He will speak directly to them during the sermon. I am going to make my phone call right now. How about you?

I'm Back!
Hello Church Family!
Lauren and I enjoyed a replenishing vacation over the past 2 weeks. First, we traveled up to Silver Birch Ranch in Wisconsin. Then, we hit some local attractions like Six Flags Great America. It was great to get away, but I am excited to be back preaching this Sunday.
If you are in town, don't miss church this weekend! I have BIG news regarding our staff search. God is doing marvelous things behind the scenes, and I want you to hear it first.
Also, we have had several new visitors at church over the past few weeks. Why don't you arrive a few minutes early this Sunday and be the welcome wagon to some people you've never met. (There will also be parking lot construction for the next few weeks, so definitely arrive 10 minutes sooner than usual!)
I will see you Sunday!

Tomorrow is a day of prayer and fasting
Greetings church family!
In case you weren't in the service on Sunday, I wanted to let you know that tomorrow is a church-wide day of prayer and fasting. Join me in taking extra time tomorrow to be in God's Word and to pray boldly for God's blessing.
In case fasting is a new idea for you, here is the point. Fasting is not a ritual. It is a relational move in God's direction. Fasting focuses our attention on the Lord, and it amplifies our prayers in His sight. I plan to fast all of Tuesday. Some may be able to fast through one or two meals. Take whatever time you can and pray for your church. Use meal times to read the Bible and pray.
Specifically, let's pray for:
-Our Easter Service to have powerful worship and a dynamic message.
-For God's Spirit to move powerfully in our church, saving souls and filling believers with joy.
-For God to draw many unbelievers to church this weekend.
-For God to bless our elders and leaders with wisdom as we chart the course for the future at Harvest.
I trust the Lord will display His power and love as we seek to glorify the King of Kings.
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

Praise report from "Bring a Friend Sunday"
Greetings!
God did amazing things at Harvest last weekend! Because we invited so many people to church, we had our highest attendance ever---424 people! We must see how powerful personal invitations can be. When we launched our church, we mailed out 40,000 postcards and fewer people showed up. You are the best advertising we will ever use.
I've head several great stories from Sunday already. One man invited two coworkers. He told me on Saturday he wasn't sure if they would attend, but both showed up! Another woman has been inviting her friend to church for months, but he never displayed interest. She was surprised when he knocked on her door for a ride on Sunday morning. She even caught him singing and taking notes during the sermon. Another couple invited a friend, and she came...and she brought her teenaged granddaughter...and the teenager brought a friend. One of the teens responded to the Gospel invitation at the end of the service, and both teens attended youth ministry Sunday night.
Someone came up to me after the service and said, "Do you remember me?" I gave him a funny look. He said, "We played little league together! Someone told me you were a Pastor and I said, 'Not him!'" I hadn't seen this person in over 15 years!
Rejoice in the fruit we are seeing! But don't get discouraged if your invites didn't come. My daugher Cassie (6) invited a friend. Her friend didn't show up, so Cassie started to cry. Let's celebrate what the Lord is doing, and have faith to believe greater works are still ahead!
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

It's finally here!
Merry Christmas Eve Eve! (to be precise)
I am so excited about this weekend. The long wait is over! God has come down to rescue us. What a time to celebrate the true gift of God, eternal life, wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.
Let me challenge you to make sure your family fills this weekend with worship for the Son of God. Here are a few year-end suggestions to make this time of the year truly the most wonderful:
1. Bring someone to the Christmas Eve service tomorrow at 5 PM. Invite someone who might otherwise not attend church.
2. Don't miss this Sunday! The Christmas carols continue, and I will preach a Christmas close-out message on Simeon and Anna. Make this Sunday part of your Christmas weekend.
3. Don't forget to finish strong financially. This Sunday is your last chance to come up to date with whatever commitment you made to the Lord this year.
4. Brace yourself for 2011. The Lord is stirring up my heart with a daring, faith-stretching vision for next year. Prepare to see our God advance His Kingdom with unstoppable power as we serve Him faithfully.
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

Christmas Edition
Merry Christmas Harvest!
We have a great service planned for this Sunday and for Christmas Eve (5pm). Who will you bring? I will be sharing the Gospel, so be sure to invite anyone who needs to hear the Good News!
Many of you were unable to attend church last week due to the weather. I didn't want you to miss the items I covered during our "family chat." I inserted my notes below:
1. Our Benevolence Team is formed, many phone calls are being made, and a system is now in place so we can meet needs for people within 3 weeks from when we are contacted. Single moms, seniors with health problems and those out of work will all be receiving assistance thanks to your offerings. In this room, people have been holding off on getting heart scans, surgeries, their refrigerators are virtually empty. We are taking action!
2. Giving Update. I want to commend us. In January, I challenged all of us to be intentional and sacrificial with our weekly giving. We don’t want to show up each week guessing what to give. I have good news to report. From April 1-Dec 1, our average weekly offering has been consistly 10% over budget! Because of this, we hired Mark Boys full-time in June, we were able to afford the move to Stagg, we upgraded our office space, and were able to further support evangelism and missions. Let me encourage you to finish the year strong. If you need to catch up, be sure to accelerate through the year end, and once we see where we close the year, I will come back in January and present a DARING VISION for what we can aim to accomplish together for the Lord in 2011.
3. Debbie Henley. Most of you know Debbie. She was on the launch team, she serves in women's ministry and children's ministry. She had a double lung transplant several years ago. Recently, she developed a fever that simply won’t stay away. This is dangerous because of the major surgery she had. Please join me in praying and fasting for her in December. Pray that she would reach the 1 month fever-free milestone, and then let's pray her on to a full year.
4. Church Planting. We will have a church planter with us throughout January. His name is Matt Townsend, and his wife is Miranda. They are going to plant a Harvest in Philadelphia, and they were assigned as residents at Harvest Palos so we can help get them ready for the adventure ahead. Make sure you introduce yourself, encourage them, and take time to bless them in some way. Share stories that you remember from our launch. Pray for them. God will use us in a special way in their lives before they step out by faith in February.
See you Sunday at Stagg!
Pastor Ryan

Remember Sunday Service is Moved This Week
Hello Harvest!
“Perpetual dust.” Remember that phrase. Since you are attending a church plant, you simply never know what is going to change. This Sunday, our worship service will be offsite! Stagg High School has its own event, so the building is unavailable. Stagg did tell us in advance that the building would be unavailable a few Sundays each year, so we knew it was coming.
Our worship service this Sunday, December 12th, will be at Moraine Valley Community College, just 2 miles west of Stagg on 111th Street. Enter Moraine from the south entrance off of 111th Street, and you will see the signs for Harvest.
You won’t want to miss this Sunday, as we will welcome several new members into the Harvest family. I will also take a few moments to update the congregation on a few things that have been on my heart recently. Call it a “family chat.”
I will see you this Sunday!
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

The Big Move!
Hello Harvest Palos!
How exciting to see all our planning and hard work come together this weekend at Stagg High School. How timely that our church is turning 1 as we step out by faith to make a greater impact in the community this year.
Remember to attend Launch Rehearsal 2 this Saturday at Stagg. The Schedule is:
5pm Worship Team, Tech Team, Road Crew and Leaders arrive
5:30pm Classroom Set-up, New Teacher Orientation, All Ministry set-up and prep
7:30-8pm All Church Rally in the Auditorium
8-9pm Worship Team Rehearsal continues
We do not need to tear everything down until Sunday after church. Please plan to remain after the service to help pack everything up if your ministry requires it.
Also, 2 big questions to ask:
1. Have you prayed/fasted for your church? Why not join me in fasting from dinner tonight to dinner tomorrow night. Pray for spiritual impact. Pray for genuine worship. Pray for our leaders.
2. Who have you invited to church this week? Get on the phone or knock on a door. We want everyone to bring someone to church this Sunday.
See you Saturday!
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

Special Update
Dear Church Family,
This Sunday will go down in history as one of our biggest steps of faith we have taken as a new church. As a result of God’s blessing and the generosity of God’s people, Mark Boys is now our 2nd full-time staff member! In response to God’s leading, Mark decided to leave his career in special education at Elim Christian School in order to enter full-time ministry at Harvest Palos. He is now the Assistant Pastor of Worship and Outreach.
As a result of Mark joining the staff, our church will see:
· A high-impact Sunday morning service on a weekly basis
· More of God’s people being trained to lead worship in other areas of ministry
· More Gospel outreach to the local community and the world
Mark will primarily be our Worship Pastor, but he will also build our missions ministry and will help shepherd the congregation.
We will officially install Mark into his new position during the Sunday morning service, so make every effort to be on hand. This would be a great weekend for you to express your gratitude to Mark and Sarah for their dedication to Harvest. Take some time to write out an encouraging card or even come with a gift to make this day special for them. They will remember this day for years to come.
As an added blessing this Sunday, Matt and Tiffany Crosland, our missionaries to Papua New Guinea, are stopping by to say goodbye. They will travel to the mission field in just a few weeks, and we have the privilege of sending them off in person.
I am looking forward to a great weekend of worship! See you Sunday.
Serving Jesus,
Pastor Ryan

Easter Update
Hello Harvest Palos!
Christmas is good. Easter is better. Far better in every way!
The baby in the manger was a wonder to behold---conceived by the Spirit, named by an angel and worshiped by shepherds and Magi alike. He came down from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Yet He was born to die and to rise victorious!
He was born to triumph over sin, over Satan and over the grave.
This Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Let me encourage you to join with me in making this weekend one of the best weekends of the entire year. If you are serving in a ministry, be on time and fully prepared. Arrive early, and consider parking in the shuttle lot to ease our parking strain.
If you have children who are singing, you are welcome to park in the main lot, but be sure to arrive at 8:15 for rehearsal.
The biggest question you have to answer is, "Who am I bringing to church with me this Sunday?" This is the perfect Sunday to invite that family member who is struggling, that neighbor who is confused, or that coworker who is curious about your faith. Be courageous and bring someone to church with you this Sunday.
Also, don't forget our Good Friday service is 7PM this week.
I look forward to an outstanding weekend of celebration!
Pastor Ryan
